The Active Fluid Management properties of SelectSilver dressings allowuse on wounds with a wide range of drainage levels. SelectSilver dressingscan be used on wounds with lower levels of drainage to higher levels ofdrainage depending on which side of the dressing is placed toward thewound. The silver ion antimicrobial kills bacteria and fungi within the dressing. The dressing demonstrates in vitro antimicrobial activity for up to 7 days against microbial strains that can be detrimental to wound healing such as, but not limited to: S. aureus (including MRSA), S. epidermidis (including MRSE), E. faecium (including VRE), Acinetobacter spp., P. aeruginosa, E. cloacae, E. faecalis, E. coli, P. mirabilis, P. vulgaris, anaerobic Peptostreptococcus spp., C. albicans, and C. tropicalis.
SelectSilver® dressings can be used throughout the healing process. Prepare the wound bed according to clinical protocol such as debridement and/or cleaning and rinsing with sterile saline or water. Remove the dressing from the package and inner liner, taking note of the printing on the dressing.
For moderate to highly draining wounds, the printed side of the dressing should be applied away from the wound bed with an absorbent secondary dressing secured on top. For no to low draining wounds, the printed side of the dressing may be applied toward the wound bed. The dressing maybe pre-wet with sterile saline, sterile water or wound gel to provide additional hydration. A secondary absorbent dressing may not be necessary.
Regardless of which side of the SelectSilver® dressing is placed toward the wound, secure with an appropriate dressing such as roll gauze, adhesive bordered gauze, composite island dressing, transparent film or tape. SelectSilver® dressings may be used under compression or in conjunction with negative pressure wound therapy.
Optimal performance of SelectSilver® dressings requires direct contact with the wound. SelectSilver® dressings can be cut, folded or wrapped as necessary. Typically, the dressing is changed 1-2 times per week. The secondary dressing may be changed as often as needed without disturbing the wound.
